A non-governmental organisation, Vina Progressive Association, has renovated the Destitute Home Development Learning Centre, Sabongida, Yaba, Lagos, equipping it with study materials that will boost teaching and learning.
The association also distributed reading and writing kits, including books, school bags and writing materials to the children in the destitute home.
Member, Board of Trustees, Adegbenga Adesoye, said the association is aimed at providing a conducive environment to make learning more attractive.
He said the association renovated the centre as it was in a terrible condition and not conducive for the children to learn.
“When we got here, it was in a really bad state, so, we took it upon ourselves to give it a face lift. We also provided books, pens and other basic learning kits to encourage the students to go to school.
A teacher at the centre, Oluwadamilare Onabanjo, lamented that the centre has been abandoned over the years by successive governments and organisations.
Onabanjo commended the association for renovating the centre, saying the gesture has helped in boosting teaching and learning.
