Ahead of the gubernatorial election petition judgement in Kano, hundreds of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) loyalists converged at various locations on Thursday to seek divine intervention in favour of Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf at the tribunal.

Yesterday’s prayer session came barely two weeks after the presidential candidate of NNPP and leader of Kwankwasiyya movement led the Governor and top political allies among hundreds of loyalists to special prayers seeking positive outcome of the judgement of the tribunal.

The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) is seeking the tribunal to upturn the victory of Governor Yusuf at gubernatorial election. APC is equally asking the court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a certificate of return to the Governor while demanding for a rerun of the March 18, 2023.

The special prayer was conducted at the six strategic Kano main entrance routes: Katsina road, Gwarzo road Madobi Road/Sharada, Zaria road, Maiduguri road and Hadejia road

Speaking at Zaria road, one of the prayer venues, the State Chairperson of the NNPP Women Group, Hajia Zuwaira Abubakar said the prayers were organised against all those working against the victory of Governor Yusuf at the tribunal.

“The prayers were organised to seek for Allah’s intervention against all those who are working against the success of the Governor in the tribunal,” she said.

Although the three-member panel of the Election Petition Tribunal, led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, has reserved judgement to later date, there is deafening silence over where the pendulum would eventually swing.
