Akwa Ibom State Government, has lauded the collaborative role of the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) in the growth of locally manufactured goods, describing it as a valuable partner in the actualisation of the state’s ARISE Agenda.
The commendation was given by the Commissioner for Information, Ini Ememobong, on Monday, during a one-day Sensitization organised by SON at De-Castle Luxury Home Annex in Uyo, with the Theme, “Promoting Exports and Economic Growth via Standardization and Quality Assurance”.
Ememobong who was a special guest at the occasion, opined that the present administration of Pastor Umo Eno is poised to collaborate with valuable partners for the development of our locally produced goods, describing SON as one of such commendable partners.
Represented by the Director of Public Relations in the Ministry, Mrs. Grace Akpan, the Information Commissioner congratulated SON on the successful confab geared at drilling the stakeholders on the prerequisites for meeting standards and quality assurance for manufactured goods for export.
In his address, the Director General/Chief Executive Officer, SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Chief Emeka Duru, said the programme aimed at training participants on ways to enable their products, goods and services attain global standards.
He urged manufacturers of local goods to standardize their products for acceptability in the competitive global market space for Export.
The Programme attended by the Regional Director of SON, Mr. Usman Mohammed, and the State Coordinator, SON, Engr Lawal Ishmaila, among others, featured lectures, interactive session and goodwill messages from NAFDAC, Nigerian Export Promotions Council, Manufactures Association of Nigeria and other related organisations.
