Gunmen, suspected to be Iceland cult members, have killed five people during an invasion of the Odiemerenyi community in Ahoada East Local Council of Rivers State.
The learnt that the gunmen alleged to be loyal to the wanted David Gift, a.k.a 2Baba, a prime suspect in the killing Superintendent of Police (SP) Bako Angbashim, the late Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Police Division, stormed the community on Sunday morning.
An indigene of the community, who pleaded anonymity, said the suspected cultists invaded the community at about 1:00a.m. Sunday and killed two of his brothers, and another person in his compound.
The brother of the deceased explained that five persons were killed in the community.
He said the suspected cultists told the community after the killings, that the only condition for them(cultists) to stop the killing was for the Nigeria Police to release their sponsors and sympathisers, as well as some chiefs in police custody. The source listed the victims as Charles Osu, Ogbobula Ejee, Eeje Idaowukwo, and two others.
The community called on the Rivers State government and security agencies to work hard and arrest the wanted cultists as everybody is now living in fear.
Another indigene, who did not want his name in print, said the cultists also accused the deceased of being police informants.
“We are tired of seeing these things, we are pleading with the government to help us and end the killings. The culprits said they would continue killing unless all the arrested people were released.
If the government does not intervene, we will continue to be in pain. Every family is crying.”
Meanwhile, an unconfirmed report has it that two of the hoodlums were killed in gun duel with the Ahoada Police Division that responded to a distress call by the community.
When contacted, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, promised to get back with full details but was yet to do so at press time.
