The Kano State Government has approved the establishment of a forensic unit at the state Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to curtail land document forging.

The ministry’s commissioner, Alhaji Adamu Kibiya, made the disclosure when he paid a courtesy visit to the zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Kano.

In a statement, signed by the ministry’s information officer, Murtala Umar, they were at the zonal command to cement the existing cordial relationship between the two organisations and to seek more collaboration and harmonious working relationships.

He further said the present administration, led by Alhaji Abba Yusuf, is committed to fighting against corruption at all levels, especially in the land sector.

Kibiya pointed out that since he assumed duty as the Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, he has encountered many challenges.

“As we are all aware, land disputes dominate agencies like ours, as most of the cases we received are land-related. That is why we found it necessary to pay you a visit to seek collaboration and a helping hand, and through synergy, we can reduce land tussles and restore sanity in land administration in the state.

“As a corruption-fighting agency, your service is highly needed to handle the many and complicated cases and complaints before us. Kano is a mega and fast-growing city in Africa, hence the tendency to have land disputes here and there,” he stressed.

According to him, establishing the forensic unit will help the government’s commitment and zeal in fighting against document falsification in the Ministry of Land.

Responding, the acting zonal commandant, Chinedu Ogbu, assured the commissioner of his command’s support for the ministry at all times.
