Sunshine Stars Head Coach, Edith Agoye, has expressed dismay over his team’s home draw with Rangers International in their NPFL matchday-eight game at Akure Township Stadium on Sunday, November 12. 2023, reports.

Speaking after the four-goal thrilling encounter, Agoye described the result as a difficult one to bear as his players could not stand the last-minute pressure that resulted in an own-goal.

Rangers unsettled the homers in the fourth minute through Godwin Obaje’s goal. Eight minutes later, Ibrahim Yusuf’s shot from the left wing restored parity for Sunshine Stars.

In the 76th minute, Moses Omodumueke shot the home side into the lead only for the team to succumb to pressure in the 90+3 minutes when Osimaga Duke’s own-goal restored parity for Rangers.

“Very tough. It’s a very tough one to take. It was a game we had in our hands, but unfortunately, we let it go,” Agoye told .

“It is so difficult, so difficult to accept but what can we do? That’s football, it happens. Sometimes in your favour, sometimes against you. So you have to accept it and move on.

“It is a tough one, but we are going to psyche the players. We lost two points again at home. We almost got it at Rivers United. In our next game, we will try as much as possible to get something.”

Agoye also blamed the points Sunshine Stars lost at home in the draw with Rangers on the inability of his player to carry out game management instructions to the letter.

He said: “It was a simple poor game management. The game was almost gone but unfortunately, the player who was given instructions on what to do felt he was the most skillful player in Nigeria, it was unbelievable. But what can we do? Mistakes happen here and there.

“The equalizer today was a difficult one to take but we continue to work. We will turn disappointment to motivation and go for the winning in Bayelsa,” Agoye concluded.

Sunshine Stars are currently in 13th position in the 20-team NPFL table with nine points from eight matches,  having won two, drew three, and lost three games so far in their 2023/2024 NPFL campaign.
