The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revealed its intention to establish the FCT University of Technology in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The Mandate Secretary, Education Secretariat, FCTA, Dr Danlami Hayyo, made this known during the inauguration of Deans, Directors, Head of Departments, Chairmen, and members of Standing Committees of the College of Education, Zuba on Thursday.

Dr Hayyo said that the FCTA was committed to increasing access to tertiary education and decongesting the FCT College of Education Zuba, which currently has over 10,000 students. He explained that establishing the university will help to reduce the pressure at the college, and if possible, the FCTA will also establish a polytechnic to accommodate the large number of youths seeking tertiary education in FCT.

He added that the FCTA was working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the university meets the standards and requirements of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other regulatory bodies. He also assured that the FCTA will provide adequate funding and infrastructure for the university to operate effectively.

He urged the newly inaugurated officials of the college to discharge their duties with diligence and professionalism, and to uphold the vision and mission of the college. He also commended the Provost of the college, Dr Gambo Hamza, for his leadership and achievements in transforming the college.

The Provost, in his remarks, thanked the FCTA for its support and cooperation, and expressed optimism that the university will be a reality soon. He also congratulated the new officials and charged them to work as a team and contribute to the development of the college.

The FCT University of Technology is expected to offer courses in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as other relevant fields that will enhance the socio-economic development of the country. The university will also provide opportunities for research and innovation, as well as collaboration with local and international partners.
